Graphic design for non-designers

Special Saving 7 – #5: Graphic design for non graphic designers

Graphic design for non graphic designers… with Canva

We can’t all be designers! And for those of who aren’t, Canva is a great, relatively simple tool for those little design jobs that you really feel you ought to be doing yourself…

Canva makes it easier for us non-pro folks to design attractive, professional-looking ‘stuff’ – from posters, graphics and logos to invitations, menus and even eBook covers.

You can choose one of their templates or start from a custom-sized blank canvas. Then you select the background, layout, text and image elements that you want, until you’ve come up with something that makes your heart sing. You can even upload your own pre-created images and logos to incorporate into your design.

Although many of the available elements on Canva are premium graphics, which cost $1 each, there is also a huge raft of free images, designs and other elements available, which are often more than adequate.

How we use it as MSPA

Canva is great for creating all sorts of promotional material, such as flyers for a client to promote specific services to their customers, or for a one-page PDF brochure promoting a particular product range.

A little note:

As much as we love Canva, it can never replace the skill, experience and knowledge of a proper bona fide designer, so for any big design needs we ALWAYS go straight to one of our in-house design masterminds.
